Hey, you've reached Priestly. Aren't you lucky! I'm not around to take your call, but you probably know what to do.

"I think they were. They're never the same as my usual dreams. They continue for too long, or one thing." Dinah gripped the phone extra hard at Priestly's offer, and said, "If you *could* get a portal, that would be awesome. I've been trying to get to Jak or Fandom through Portalocity for the last week and they keep saying they can't *find* Sandover, and, well." She gulped. "I think I know why, now, but I don't... I want to be sure."

"Yeah," Dinah said, pacing the length of the balcony. "And his best friend was there with him. So I know he had back-up. But..." She shook her head. "I'm pretty sure time was wonky there, Priestly. Too much was happening for it to be just a week. I think it's been a few months, at least."

"Helena said she'd go with me, if I could get a portal to wherever he was. Barbara didn't want either of us to go until we knew more about it." Dinah made a face, then said, "Alfred was on her side with that. He didn't tell me to give up, but he said that rushing in was likely to be met with return fire...." She sat down, and looked out at the lights over the city. "Aside from the nightmares? This has been a really great Christmas. So I'm having some cognitive dissonance, here."

Hence, freakage.

"Yeaaah," Dinah said, and then wistfully, "We beat up some burglars last night. They were taking stuff going to a charity auction. So, yes, Helena did end up wearing a Santa hat while beating up bad guys."

Merry Christmas, Priestly. Don't say Dinah never gave you anything.

"Please distract me. I've gone around on this so many times I don't know what direction I'm facing. Any new ideas would be awesome."

"What?" As distractions went, that one was killer. "How could she be afraid of you? What did you say to her? Or is she just that unused to facial hair and piercings?"

A year after they'd met, and Dinah totally forgot she'd been intimidated by the hair and the kilt, even as she'd been charmed by the attempts to flirt.

"You intimidated a waif?" Because anyone squeaking at Priestly had to be a waif. "Awwww. Unless she's crazy and uptight. Is she? What did Trucker say?"

"Well, cool. You can keep in contact until you're back in Santa Cruz this summer. And maybe by then she won't be so easily cowed by you and your awesome." Dinah sighed, and asked, "Are you going on the trip to New York City this week when you get back?"

"Makes sense." Dinah traced Jak's name in Sandover letters into the ice on the balcony, then wiped it away. "I'm going to be there, if Jak is back. Which he might be. I don't know, it's all mega-confusing, I hate Portalocity, I just want to see that he's alive and in one piece, you know?"

It helped, hearing someone else say that. Because sense and sanity were both saying that he could be dead, he was definitely taking too many risks, and Dinah was supposed to stay out of the way.... but sense and sanity had been depriving her of sleep for a week. She really just needed that hope, there.

"Thanks, Priestly." Dinah sighed, and rubbed her head. "Do you want me to talk to your Mom for you? I owe you something nice."

"Tell her I said hi," Dinah said. "And I'll see you soon. Merry late Christmas, Priestly. And Solstice or whatever. Love you."

That was going to be Dinah's mantra 'til she saw Jak again. "I will. Thanks, Priestly."
